Becky W. found some deals!

Just got a call from Becky W. She's been out shopping the deals and wanted to make everyone aware of two.

First, Seagull Books has spiral bound journals with elastic bookmarks on clearance for $1.99. They are normally in the $12 range. Becky found this deal at the Seagull Book in the shopping center on the corner of 90th South and Redwood Rd.

Secondly, Avon has their tubes of lip gloss on the best deal of the year for 69 cents each. If you have any desire to purchase those, you can contact your Avon representative or call Becky. She will add as many to her order as you would like her to!

Keep shopping those deals and passing along the details. Thanks for all your efforts. It is so fun working together! I had a couple of bags of goods from the needs list on my porch this morning as a nice surprise. Hope to see you Thursday morning.

Thursday Workshop and Delivery #2

Just a reminder that Thursday morning at 9:00 we will be gathering together to work on our projects at Heidi's house. Come enjoy some delightful conversations and good tunes as you work on your humanitarian efforts.

Today I delivered six washclothes and six fleece throws that were donated this week.

Thank you for all your efforts on this project.

Our First Delivery

Well, we are off and running. I dropped our first load off with Linda today. It included: 39 toothbrushes, 48 little hearts, 3 throws, 1 stuffed animal, and 14 toys/games.

Thanks to everyone for their donations!

Today, I also learned that South Valley Sanctuary has just requested a huge order of welcome kits. Linda is putting them together right now.

Take advantage of the fleece sale this week at Jo-Ann Fabrics. For boys 7 and up, we need bug, jungle, dinosaur and dog themed throws. For girls, we need throws to accompany a collection of porcelain dolls that was just donated. Maybe fleece with antique dolls or a bit of a vintage feel.

If you have any questions, please call Heidi Williams. Let's work together and change the world.

This Week at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores

I went into the Jo-Ann at Family Center this afternoon to buy some material for blankets. The fleece with patterns on it is on sale for 50% off this week! One simple way to make a fleece throw (that doesn't require any sewing) is to buy 1 1/2 yards of fleece that is 58 inches wide. To finish the throw, you simply need two skills: cutting with scissors and tying knots. If you can do these two things, you are in good shape.

The total for a whole fleece throw using this method is just under $10 while the sale is on. I found dinosaur, bug, jungle theme, and skate boarding themed fleece.

If you're able, now is a good time to pick up fleece for one throw or maybe enough to keep you busy for a while. I got a stack of six since even my kids can easily put these together while they're watching a movie.

Don't forget we're meeting at Heidi's at 10am tomorrow morning. I am happy to demonstrate this method.

Two Heart to Heart Workshops on the Calendar

Next Tuesday, February 15th at 10:00am will be our first "workshop" at Heidi's house. A second "workshop" is scheduled for Thursday, February 17th at 7:00pm at Charlaine's house.

Please bring what you're working on for this project or just come to help someone else with what they're working on.

If you have a project that needs helpers, please comment on this post so people are aware of the opportunities.

Anybody have a great idea for what to call this time besides "workshop"? We want to accomplish great things for this others while we visit and have a great time together. Put your thinking caps on!

Shortage on Blankets for Boys

I received a call from Linda requesting the following fleece blankets for older boys:

* jungle theme blankets for boys 7 and older
* bug/insect theme blankets for boys 7 and older
* dinosaur blankets for boys 7 and older

We can all work together! Maybe someone can purchase the fleece, others can quilt it, some can bind it, etc. Let's coordinate our efforts if that works.

If it works best for you to do a project on your time, that is fine too!

Let's answer this call for help from Linda.

Project Kick off

Last night we had an exciting evening where we kicked off the Heart to Heart Humanitarian Project. I think everyone who attended felt motivated and enthusiastic about the project. We actually had to turn the lights off to kick the real enthusiasts out of the church at 9:30!

If you missed the kick off, don't despair. We are joining forces to create welcome kits to shelters for women and children fleeing from domestic abuse of all kinds. We are thrilled to "knit out hearts together" with each other, with the people that we're helping, and with our Savior, Jesus Christ. If you're interested in seeing a DVD that explains the project, please let me know. The "Needs List" highlights the items that are put in the welcome kits. Hundreds are made every year.

Here are some pictures from last night:
